Spellings for Me, a personalised spelling programme has successfully rolled out Version 2 of its platform, marking a significant milestone in its mission to transform spelling education worldwide. The upgraded platform, developed in collaboration with TEKenable is using Artificial Intelligence to improve success through a personalised learning experience automatically tailored to each pupil’s needs.

Originally designed for primary schools in Ireland, Spellings for Me quickly gained international traction as teachers relocated and continued using the tool abroad.​ However, the platform’s initial design revealed limitations, including Irish-accented audio files, lack of advanced reporting tools, and scalability issues.​ To address these challenges, TEKenable has evolved the platform into a robust, future-proof solution.​Version 2 offers 10 proofed accents allowing each school chose the voice that best suits their learners.  All AI generated and more can be added with ease.

Over 90,000 pupils per year are enjoying Spellings for Me, with steady annual growth.   “The international growth potential of this platform has been greatly enhanced by TEKenable’s use of AI to enable regionalisation resulting in sign-ups from International schools in 25 countries since the launch of the revamped platform,” states Paddy.

The rollout of Version 2 has been met with resounding success, with schools across multiple countries adopting the platform,” says Paddy. “Many of the Version 2 adopters teach English as an Additional Language, and Spellings for Me is now live in international schools across Spain, Finland, Greece, China (Wuhan), Hong Kong, France, Germany, Portugal, Japan, India, Jordan, UAE, Sweden, Egypt, Ghana, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Chile, Uruguay, Turkmenistan, and more. Wherever pupils are learning English, Spellings for Me,  with its multi-accent support and research-backed content, continues to meet learners’ diverse needs in classrooms around the world”.

A new homeschool version has also been introduced, allowing parents to purchase the programme directly.​

Spellings for Me is currently collaborating with TEKenable’s AI division on a built-in AI reporting engine.  Soon, teachers and parents will see an “AI-Insight” button beside each student with the inclusion of AI to recognise patterns that may suggest the pupil has learning differences e.g. early flags for potential learning differences (e.g. dyslexia risk) not a formal diagnosis, but a prompt for further assessment.  This will help ensure no child ever slips through the net for dyslexia.

Hollister Ballina transforms into ‘epicentre of global expertise’ with €80m investment

Hollister Incorporated, a global leader in ostomy, continence, wound care and critical care products has announced an €80m R&D investment and a digital transformation project that will create approximately 50 new jobs in Ballina.

The multimillion-euro investment aims to elevate Ballina into a global epicentre of expertise through novel device design and extensive site-wide training, setting a benchmark for digital transformation within Hollister’s global network.

This project is supported by the Irish Government through IDA Ireland.

Minister for Social Protection and Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht  Dara Calleary TD said: “This is a terrific day for Ballina and North Mayo with the announcement of 50 additional jobs for the region. Hollister is more than just a manufacturing plant in Ballina; it is one of the mainstays of our community. Today, second and third generations of families are employed there boosting the local economy and contributing to the everyday life of the town. I want to pay credit to Shane Caher and all of the staff in Hollister who have dedicated themselves to Ballina and to the West of Ireland but also to all of the past Hollister management and staff who’s work, and commitment is the foundation of the plant’s success today. Ekco acquires Adapt IT, bringing acquisition spend to €57M in two years

Ekco, one of Europe’s leading security-first managed service providers, today announces that it has acquired Adapt IT, a Cork-headquartered IT managed service provider (MSP). The new deal, which is Ekco’s sixth acquisition in two years, brings Ekco’s total acquisition investment to €57 million within this timeframe.

In business for more than 20 years, Adapt IT employs 37 people at its Cork location, serving customers in the small-and-medium-sized enterprises (SME) market. Its 300-strong customer base operates in industries such as manufacturing, retail, hospitality, legal, and finance. The deal bolsters Ekco’s ability to support fast-growing SMEs with unified, secure, and scalable technology solutions.

The acquisition of Adapt IT brings Ekco’s global headcount to more than 1,000 employees and adds a seventh Irish location to its growing regional network. In addition to its three sites in Dublin, Ekco now operates in Cork, Waterford, and Laois, as well as across the UK, Netherlands, South Africa, and Malaysia. Adapt IT’s expertise in Microsoft solutions will strengthen Ekco’s modern working service offering for its customers, and its MSP focus will further build upon Ekco’s existing managed service capabilities.

Adapt IT’s customer base will now benefit from Ekco’s suite of advanced cloud services, automation expertise, and cybersecurity capabilities in areas including security information and event management (SIEM), security operations centres (SOC), and backup. As the cybersecurity regulatory landscape continues to evolve, Ekco will also provide peace of mind through its compliance services. Additionally, Adapt IT’s teams will be able to avail of comprehensive upskilling, certification, and continuous learning opportunities to keep pace with industry demand.

The deal is the latest in Ekco’s wider acquisition strategy for growth and brings the total number of businesses acquired by Ekco in the last two years to six. Earlier this year, the company announced the purchase of Predatech, a UK-based cybersecurity consultancy. In 2024, it added UK legal IT specialist CTS to its portfolio of companies. 2023 saw the additions of MSPs Radius and Bluecube, as well as cloud migration and cybersecurity specialist iSystems.

Goggle Gemini expands Veo 3 capabilities in Ireland

Google has just announced a significant expansion of Veo 3 capabilities within the Gemini App, empowering Google AI Pro subscribers in Ireland. I have taken it for a spin today so to speak and impressed at what it can do now so one can only imagine what possibilities are coming down the road.

Google is making it easier than ever for users to generate and share dynamic video content directly from the Gemini App. Veo 3, the advanced video generation model, allows Google AI Pro subscribers to generate videos from text.

Simply click the “tools” option in the Gemini prompt bar, select “video,” and describe your scene. Gemini will instantly create an eight-second video clip at 720p resolution, delivered as an MP4 file in a 16:9 landscape format, complete with audio.
