Ok so tech is becoming part of our lives more especially at home and not to long ago we seen something similar to today’s topic which is the humble kettle, its now got smart and it makes us that bit more lazy but we love it.last year we featured the iKettle, this time round its the AppKettle.

The Electric Kettle is quite simply the world’s most versatile beverage maker used by millions of people, every day. We use it to make our favourite hot drinks and share moments with our loved one’s, friends and colleagues, essentially the Kettle has the power to connect us.

“We are extremely passionate about technology, hot drinks, sharing and connecting moments together and that is why we created Appkettle to be:

Convenient, Timesaving, Useful, Beautiful and Simple for Everyone.”

Appkettle is the world’s first kettle with volume and temperature linked to your app in real-time. This allows you to interact, see and control Appkettle’s temperature, volume, timings and energy usage.

Who is the App Kettle for ?

  • Standard Home Platform – Appkettle works through WiFi and will be developed onto the Apple HomeKit platform and Android. This solution is efficient, safe and secure for enabling communication between multiple smart home products and the user.
  • Real-time User Interface – All users can see kettle usage, schedule and make selections through the appkettle app.
  • Cloud Based Architecture – It is our intention, on achieving the required stretch goal to integrate Appkettle’s functionality into a cloud system. This would support remote connection outside of WiFi connectivitiy and allow control through 3G/4G, dynamic multi-user and preference control, external connectivity, distance-time relationships and more..
  • You Save Time – According to Which? approximate statistics, Brits boil 1,378 times a year with the average kettle taking one minute and 27 seconds to boil (2 cups). Appkettle will help reduce 33 hours of waiting to near zero. More time for you to enjoy and with perfect tasting beverages.

Parents with kids

  • Set Feed Time – Pick any time, any day.
  • Scheduled Cool Down – Appkettle boils and cools for time selected.
  • Prepare Baby Bottle – On arrival make up a baby bottle
  • Finish – Quickly cool bottle under tap, check temp on wrist and feed

3 years in the Making.

Drink Timing and Control

Appkettle’s smart scheduling enables you to set beverage types for any time in the day or night. It uses temperature and volume information to heat and allow for cooling as necessary to suit your drink requirements. The App then notifies you, keeps it warm or you can simply arrive at the kettle for the time selected.

Wakē – NO more arguments in the bedroom. #BedroomTech #Wakē #Alarm #Home by @jimboireland

We all have alarm clocks or use our mobiles to wake us up,however in a fast paced world and with different shifts etc we find families might have different rising times and this can cause some discomfort in the house by waking others up. Now there is a solution.

How does this work

Once you’re awoken, Wakē will reposition itself should you roll over and shut itself off when you get up. You can always snooze or deactivate any alarm using the Wake app.

Wakē uses a parametric speaker (like a laser beam of sound) to deliver focused, soothing sounds that start quietly, and grow louder slowly as the light beam grows brighter. Since Wakē’s light and sound is aimed at you, your partner can rest peacefully while you wake up energized.

What is inside Wakē

Wakē has its own app that works like a regular alarm clock app — Just tell Wakē which side of the bed you sleep, and how you want to wake up.

Wakē installs easily in about a minute with a screwdriver. Just stand on your bed and fix the mounting bracket to the wall above your headboard. Wakē runs on rechargeable batteries and only needs a recharge a few times per year. The Wakē app lets you know when it’s time to plug in the included power cord.

This will go down a treat in my place, see more over HERE about Wakē

Samsung respond to recent bend tests, and ask for another. #Samsung #Bendgate #SqaureTrade by @jimboireland

If you have not seen the video, you can watch it below but to be honest i did think this test was unfair myself due to how it was conducted and i am happy Samsung have now officially responded to this if you watch the video below you will see how this test was completed across, first up is Samsungs own test via Samsung Tomorrow.

This is the test below that Squaretrade put out over the last few days showing the 6 Plus, the HTC One M9 and the S6 Edge.

Samsung Statement Official

Recently, there have been several reports about the durability of smartphones stemming from a You Tube video posted by SquareTrade. It shows several smartphones, including the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge, being bent or broken under high pressure. In this video, the Galaxy S6 edge was broken under the pressure of 110lbf (50kgf), but there are two things that need to be addressed with regard to the video.

First, the video assumes a very specific condition – 110lbf (50kgf), which rarely occurs under normal circumstances. The normal force that generated when a person presses the back pocket is approximately 66lbf (30kgf). Our internal test results indicate that the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge are not bendable even under 79lbf (32kgf), which is equivalent to putting pressure to snap a bundle of five pencils at once.

Secondly, even though both front and back sides are exposed under the same level of pressure in normal circumstances, this test does not show the strength of the back side. Some smartphones have different durability in each the front and back sides respectively.  SquareTrade has only tested the front side, which may mislead consumers about the entire durability of smartphones.

For this reason being, Samsung will officially deliver our statement to SquareTrade and ask them to conduct the stress test again which targets both front and back sides, and open the test result to the public.

All our devices are put rigorous high-quality validation tests before they are delivered to consumers. These tests include various conditions, such as dropping, bending, and breakage. And we are confident that all our smartphones are not bendable under daily usage.

Motorola Moto X, E, and G(4g) 1st gen will jump directly to Android 5.1 By @VicenteA_George #android #motorola

Yesterday Motorola’s Software product manager, David Schuster, said on his Google+ account that all 1st gen Moto devices are being tested on Android 5.0.2 on par of the Android 5.1

Apparently all of the improvements found with the latest build, suggest it’s better for the customers, go directly to 5.1

Schuster said nothing about when the update will start rolling out, but should be really soon as the Moto G Google Play Edition is already receiving the OTA making this the first GPE devices getting the new build.

TechBuzzIreland CEO is guest appearance on #TheConsumerShow. #Tech #Media #TV #RTE

TechBuzzIreland has been working hard in the background on several projects and The Consumer Show has been one of those projects and we would like to thank The Consumer Show and Tadhg Enright for having us on the show in which we discuss battery anxiety and how it can be solved or can it be going forward with todays technology. Portable charging is one way and these chargers have evolved from a typical slab to an fancy accessory in their own right and now they look attractive and prices have come down over the years since they have hit the market. Not only are they a viable option to aide the discussion at hand they are another revenue stream for manufacturers too.

Tadhg Enright asks the nation about their battery anxiety, that 21st century condition in which mobile users fret about whether they’ll be left with a dead phone.

Tadhg said: “It’s that sinking feeling you get when halfway through your busy day, there’s well under half your battery left on your phone and nowhere you can plug it in.”

88% of mobile users won’t leave home without their mobiles, according to a survey carried out for The Consumer Show by Edelman Ireland. 84% of us have changed our behaviour to keep our batteries from dying. 8% of people who answered our survey actually went home rather than stay out with friends so they could charge their phone.

Mobiles are no longer just tools for calling and texting with web-browsing, email, photography, social media and a plethora of apps all draining their batteries. Dr. Kevin Ryan from the University of Limerick told The Consumer Show: “If you look at your phone that you had 10 years ago and the phone you have now, the battery is probably the same size, but the applications that it’s running are probably a lot more.”

From turning off data to putting their phones in aircraft mode, there are many ways for mobile users to preserve their batteries throughout the day. Jim O’Brien, from Techbuzz Ireland told The Consumer Show about his top tips: “Turn off your location settings would be one, turn off background applications which are updating by themselves would be two, and your light on your screen: sometimes people have their screens very bright which wears down the battery.” Other tips also to include turn auto updates off, notification settings (sync data),vibration or use flight mode when not in use etc.

51% of people who answered our survey said that battery life was an important consideration when choosing a new mobile phone, second only to price.

The Consumer Show visited the University of Limerick where researchers in its nanotechnology lab have made a scientific breakthrough which could help double the capacity of mobile batteries. Dr. Kevin Ryan, whose been leading the research said: “What we’re doing is developing the next generation of lithium ion batteries. What we’re trying to do is improve the performance of those batteries so they can last longer and deliver more energy for your device.”

Tadhg will also show consumers some of the other cures for battery anxiety including mobile charging devices and the latest wireless charging technology which could be coming to a café near you soon.

HYT announces third installment of Hydro-mechanical movement watch H3 by @Tiwaash #Tech #HYT #H3

Fancy owning a $290,000 watch??? Well I’m not kidding!!! You can now own if you wish to buy you gotta hurry since only 25 units would only be sold starting September this year. Baselworld 2015 featured the HYT’s third installment of the hydro-mechanical movement known as H3. This watch has opted for a linear portrayal of time instead of the traditional circular portrayal.

The case of H3 has been created from PVD-coated titanium and satin-finished platinum and is water resistant up to a depth of 98 ft. The case measures 2.4×1.6×0.63 in. It comes with a power reserve indicator located at the rear, while the manual winding caliber offers a 170-hr power reserve.

The watch incorporates conventional watch movements along with two bellows that are responsible for pushing coloured liquid into a capillary. The approach is challenging, unique and requires a very detailed manipulation of the conventional mechanism of the watches thus imparting visuals that are stunning and accurate.

The H3 forces the liquid in a straight line while making use of a rotating, 4-faced dial in collaboration with an articulated arm to tell minutes. The left bellow has been placed at the top section of the case from where it forces the colored liquid, based on water, into the straight capillary. The other bellow, located on the right, works by having the other translucent fluid fall back in the tube. After six hours, the system works backwards and the subsequent energy is consumed in turning the 4-faced dial located below.

Let us know what you think of this watch in the comments below our tweet us using #techbuzzireland

Can Ford put an end to speeding fines ? New technology might help. #Ford #Tech #Speed by @jimboireland #Motoring

Speeding fines are never a welcome sight and we have plenty of those lovely looking vans parked on roadsides with a nice big camera in the back window, often the case they are also hidden and catch you out and then 2 weeks later a fine pops through your letterbox, not nice at all,but Ford now have something that may help drivers in this area with their new S-Max model.

The system monitors road signs with a camera mounted on the windscreen, and slows the vehicle as required. As the speed limit rises, the system allows the driver to accelerate up to the set speed – providing it does not exceed the new limit.

“Drivers are not always conscious of speeding and sometimes only becoming aware they were going too fast when they receive a fine in the mail or are pulled over by law enforcement,” said Stefan Kappes, active safety supervisor, Ford of Europe. “Intelligent Speed Limiter can remove one of the stresses of driving, helping ensure customers remain within the legal speed limit.”

Further new technologies available for the new S-MAX include the Pedestrian Detection system that will reduce the severity of some collisions involving vehicles and pedestrians, or help drivers avoid some impacts altogether.

The versatile people-mover also is equipped to help out at junctions where it is difficult to see. At low speeds a camera fitted in the grille monitors the view from the front of the car, which is then displayed inside the car.
