U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE PERMITS NOKIA AND ALCATEL-LUCENT TO PROCEED WITH PROPOSED COMBINATION
Nokia and Alcatel-Lucent today announced that the United States Department of Justice has granted early termination of the U.S. antitrust waiting period for the combination of Nokia and Alcatel-Lucent, permitting the transaction to proceed. Early termination of the U.S. antitrust waiting period takes us one important step closer to the closing of the pending transaction.
The parties continue to make good progress with the regulatory approval processes in the remaining relevant jurisdictions, with the parties having already obtained antitrust clearances in Brazil and Serbia. Both companies will continue to cooperate with the remaining authorities to close their reviews as quickly as possible.
The transaction remains subject to approval by Nokia shareholders, Nokia holding over 50.00% of the share capital of Alcatel-Lucent on a fully diluted basis upon completion of the public exchange offer, receipt of other regulatory approvals and other customary conditions. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2016.

Changes are good specially when they are done to simplify our actions and that’s what Twitter has done today with the videos. Twitter has been working constantly to improbe the user experience and also to do do away with the number of taps. Twitter said
Today, it’s become even easier to enjoy video on Twitter. Now native videos, Vines and GIFs will begin to play back automatically. So you can keep up with the action without missing a Tweet and get a better sense of what’s been shared instantly.
Once you tap the video, sound will turn on and the video will continue to play in an expanded view. If you turn the video to landscape mode, the sound will automatically turn on and the video will expand to fill the screen. Although you have ultimate control through your settings. You can choose to revert to the previous click-to-play experience all the time or simply have videos autoplay only when you’re connected to wifi.
This feature is made available to users on the web and iOS, Android users will get this feature soon, but there is no news for WindowsPhone users.
LG Electronics has agreed to take a royalty-bearing smartphone patent license from Nokia Technologies. The Korean company is the latest of more than 60 licensees for Nokia’s 2G, 3G and 4G mobile communication technologies and the first major smartphone manufacturer to join the licensing program since Nokia divested its Devices & Services business to Microsoft in 2014.
Ramzi Haidamus says
“We are pleased to welcome LG Electronics to our licensing program,” said Ramzi Haidamus, President of Nokia Technologies. “We’ve worked constructively with LG Electronics and agreed a mutually beneficial approach, including the use of independent arbitration to resolve any differences. This agreement sets the scene for further collaboration between our companies in future.”
The detailed royalty payment obligations will be subject to commercial arbitration, expected to conclude within a 1-2 year timeframe. Other terms of the agreement remain confidential between the two companies.
Skype for Web (Beta) is now available worldwide! Please see below for a list of supported languages. Also, good news for Chromebook and Linux users: you can now access Skype for Web (Beta) for instant messaging.
Skype for Web is now available in ,wait for it Beta, thats if you live in the US or the UK,and its available for new users or current users whom already use the app from their mobile or tablet, the only difference is here you do not need to download the App ,you just log in via Skype.com (or web.skype.com)
Skype for Web is an important step for Skype as we move towards implementing the technology to make Real-Time Communications (RTC)
On their blog they say..
If you already use Skype, sign into Skype for web and you’ll notice your contacts and conversations load in just a few seconds, so whether you usually use Skype on a mobile, tablet, native desktop app or a TV, you’ll see your latest chats are ready to respond to in your browser.
We’ve improved the way you search for people and groups on Skype. Instead of two separate lists for contacts and recent conversations, Skype for Web introduces a timeline view – a single, searchable list that makes it easier to start new conversations and find existing ones.Great for all your conversation types
Video calls, instant messaging and audio calling with a friend or group of friends – however you want to keep in touch, Skype for Web gets you to the conversation quickly from your desktop browser (Internet Explorer, Chrome, Safari and Firefox). Don’t forget to install the plug-in before you make or receive your first call.
Never miss a moment
We’ve added notifications on Skype for Web (you’ll need to enable them when you sign-in), so you don’t miss incoming instant messages, audio or video calls, even if you’re using another app or viewing a different website in another browser window.
We’ll be continuing to roll-out Skype for Web worldwide in the next few weeks, so please share your thoughts in the Skype Community. We are constantly improving Skype for Web and would love to hear your feedback.
There is no doubt it has or it will happen but someone on their mobile phone will bump into you because they are glued to their device checking emails, social media or sending sms..its either that or you see folk bumping into a lamppost…
Hopefully this initiative will help those who spend much time on their phone and they can bump into each other all they like, maybe it will eventually become somewhat a normality in other countries around the world. A Belgian city (Antwerp) has now got these text lanes.
An Mlab spokesperson told Yahoo News, “Everyone text-walks. You probably walk through the streets while texting or sending WhatsApp messages to your friends and don’t really pay attention to your surroundings – only to whatever is happening on your screen.
‘This causes collisions with poles or other pedestrians. You could, unknowingly, even be endangering your own life while you text-walk when you cross the street without looking up.”
Meteor mobile are still continuing to enhance their network which is of course great news for customers, this will mean great improvements all around if you are a 3G or 4G customer. 3G speeds have increased by 70% too and internet pages will load quicker and streaming will also be must more fine tuned with hopefully no buffering.
Of course speed will vary per say and depending on location…Meteor support over 14.5 million texts, 15 million voice minutes, and a massive 51,000 gigabytes of data daily!.
For more info on speeds and coverage check out full details over HERE
After failing to seal the acquisition deal of Twitch last year, Google is here to give a stiff competition to the Amazon owned Twitch with a brand new service, YouTube Gaming. Google should make this service from this summer.
People are already using YouTube to post gaming videos, and this will give them a dedicated home. More than 25,000 games will each have their own page on YouTube Gaming, which will collect the best videos and live streams about that particular title. The service will also have channels from game developers and YouTube creators. You’ll be able to easily add a game to your collection, letting you quickly get to the latest videos about it. As for channels, you’ll subscribe to get notified when they start a live stream. Recommendations will be shown to you based on the games you like, and search inside YouTube Gaming will be restricted to game-related queries.
“In the coming weeks” it will become simpler to upload your gameplay to YouTube, thanks to “an improved live experience”. And you won’t need to schedule a live event ahead of time anymore. Furthermore, you will get a single link you can share for all your streams. YouTube Gaming will come with a new website and app, which will feature gaming-related videos and live streams, powered by what Google calls “the biggest community of gamers on the web”. This service will first be accessible in UK & USA & later to the rest of the world.
I have heard the term so many time before that 140 characters is not enough and off we go to another platform to have a waffle, well now that s no longer an issue as Twitter is removing the 140 character limit on Direct Messages,Twitter has been busy of late… So now you can say more and keep it in private too starting in July. Good…
“We’ve done a lot to improve Direct Messages over the past year and have much more exciting work on the horizon. One change coming in July that we want to make you aware of now (and first!) is the removal of the 140 character limit in Direct Messages. In order to make this change as seamless as possible for you we’ve included some recommendations below to ensure all your applications and services can handle these longer format messages before we flip the switch.”
We recommend taking the following actions in preparation:
Review the new API additions below.
Update your GET requests so you will be able to receive the full length of DM text.
Adjust your app UI to accommodate longer DM text.
You may be wondering what this means for the public side of Twitter. Nothing! Tweets will continue to be the 140 characters they are today.
