@Cowboy_HQ takes to the streets in a bid to transform the urban commute with new smart electric bike #ebike

Belgian start-up Cowboy, designer and developer of the award-winning smart electric bike has today announced its plans for European expansion with its innovative way to ease traffic, reduce emissions and bring cycling to the modern world.

With traffic congestion plaguing built up areas across the globe, electric bikes are proving to be the fastest means of transportation, beating cars and public transport. Cowboy’s vision is to elevate the daily commute to the next level in terms of speed, comfort and freedom of movement around cities. Cowboy enhances the riding experience by unifying intelligent technology, sleek design and meticulous customer service.

Founded in Brussels in 2017 Cowboy has raised ten million EUR to date from international investors (including Index Ventures, Tiger Global and Hardware Club) in its Series A round in autumn 2018 and quickly sold out its entire stock of bikes in Belgium last year. Today Cowboy announces its latest model as it sets it sights on European expansion in 2019.

“We have just reached a milestone of 1 million kilometers ridden on Cowboy equating to a saving of 112,944 kg CO2 : a great moment for us to embark on the European expansion“, says Cowboy’s co-founder and CEO Adrien Roose. “We see fantastic potential across the European market for electric bikes with customer demand increasing as cities continue to grow, traffic grinds to a halt and we look for ways to cut our carbon footprint”.

At the heart of Cowboy is the user experience enabled by technology at every step, from purchasing and riding the bike to customer support and service.

Design meets tech

Cowboy was designed to embody the founders’ vision of a sleek, light and agile bike, using high-quality components and customised assembly. With its clean design the bike weighs just 16 kg and comes with a light and compact removable battery with a range of up to 70 km. The bike intuitively reacts to the riders’ needs from the moment they begin to pedal: the automatic motor assistance senses when the rider needs more power and adjusts accordingly, without the need to switch gears. The integrated front and back lights illuminate the path for safety, with back lights increasing intensity while braking.

Full connectivity

The bike is controlled via the Cowboy app available for iOs and Android and uses Bluetooth to provide the owner with a safe digital key to activate the bike. A live dashboard keeps the rider informed of the status of the ride in terms of speed, duration, distance and battery level. The app also allows users to turn the front light on and off and has an integrated navigation system. If the bike is stolen, the ‘Find My Bike’ function in the app helps to locate it via GPS thanks to the built-in SIM card.

Continuous customer support along the way

From the test drive to the daily commute, Cowboy riders have constant access to the customer support. Cowboy will sell directly to consumers via cowboy.com, cutting out the middleman. The remote diagnostic system sends push notifications to alert the rider about any maintenance needs, e.g. if brake-pads need replacing or when the tires need inspection.

By pairing smart design and innovative tech Cowboy follows the basic principle of making the daily journey as comfortable and intuitive as possible for the rider.

“We started Cowboy with the vision to build the most exciting bike for the urban commute”, Adrien Roose comments. “By eliminating the three main hurdles associated with electric bikes – high cost, poor design and redundant technology – we’ve created an electric bike that is both exciting and practical and set to become a mainstream mode of transport. Cowboy allows urban dwellers freedom from the constraints and stress associated with the daily commute without a huge price tag or technology that will age fast”.

Cowboy retails at EUR 1,990 and will be available for purchase in the UK later this year.

The 8 Personality Traits to Succeed in Cybersecurity. #Cybercrime #Cybersecurity

Cybersecurity threats are on the rise. With the rapid increase of security breaches, company hacks and data leaks, cybercrime has become one of the most significant threats to global business. Skilled cybersecurity professionals are key for the safety of companies and governments, but there is an anticipated skills shortage of 1.8 million workers by 2022. The demand for talent in this space is at an all-time high, and there are some unique personality traits that recruiters and companies need to look out for.

Hogan Assessments, a leading provider of personality assessments, has helped some of the world’s top IT and cybersecurity firms recruit the right individuals. Hogan’s science-based assessments and 30 years of validated research found that there are eight personality characteristics best suited to a successful career in cybersecurity.

  1. Modest.  Those that tend to excel in cybersecurity typically prefer to avoid the spotlight.A successful cybersecurity agenda is not egotistical or fame hungry, and instead favors a more low-key lifestyle. After all, most of the well-known names in cybersecurity are notorious cyber-criminals.

  1. Altruistic. Cybersecurity professionals should want to help people. While they are working all day with systems and programming, protecting and helping people is at the core of this profession. They should work well with others and avoid isolating themselves. Fighting threats will require cooperation and trust between colleagues as they are striving together towards the same security goals.

  1. Composed. The enterprise systems they are protecting from attacks are always under threat. Cybersecurity agents naturally need to have a sense of urgency, but it is crucial that they stay composed handling cyberthreats. Unnecessary outbursts when the pressure is rising can be counterproductive and shift their attention away from what is at stake.

  1. Scientific. The perfect cybersecurity professional wants to solve problems using data and analytic skills. Cyber criminals are increasingly sophisticated in their attacks and this requires individuals who are highly technical and value evidence-based decision making.

  1. Inquisitive. The world of cybersecurity is ever changing. When threats are prevented, new ones emerge which can require a completely different set of skills than the ones needed previously. A successful cybersecurity candidate is imaginative, curious and creative. They need to figure things out quickly, show motivation to learn and be open to new ideas.

  1. Skeptical. ‘Trust no one’ would be a useful motto for a cybersecurity worker. To get ahead of the game and prevent attacks means sometimes having to think like a hacker. This means maintaining suspicion about what’s going on around you, because in a world of constant threats, naivety can be a dangerous thing.

  1. Responsive. In cybersecurity, things can go wrong quickly, and you might be blamed for breaches that weren’t your fault. If someone in the company opens a phishing email and exposes sensitive information, you might be held accountable. It is thus very important for a cybersecurity worker to be open and responsive to criticisms and avoid being passive-aggressive.

  1. Diligent. In a pressured environment with a firm’s security at stake, a successful candidate needs to be detail-oriented and constantly pushing projects to completion. One small oversight could lead to attacks, so cybersecurity specialists need to scrutinise every detail. They also need to value achievement and making an impact.

Dr. Ryne Sherman, Chief Science Officer, adds: “Traditional recruiting practices often overlook personality and focus on education, experience and a set of hard skills. While these are important, it is crucial to remember that personality characteristics play a huge role. A candidate with the suitable personality can be easily trained into the right role. This is especially true in the cybersecurity world where companies struggle to find the experienced individuals they need. To recruit top talent, companies should direct their attention to the power of personality.”

Bring Arcade classics with a cabinet into your home with Arcade1Up. #Gaming #Retro #Tech #Arcade1Up

Arcade1Up is a range of officially licenced large-sized arcade cabinets featuring classic video games from the 70s and 80s. Made by US toy company Tastemakers and led by CEO Scott Bachrach, it started off as a passion project for Scott where he wanted to capture that feeling of playing old arcade video games, just as it was in the 70s / 80s. With modern versions being largely mini handhelds or console-based, he felt that the ‘feeling’ of the old school arcades just wasn’t being delivered. And so the project started to make officially licenced affordable arcade cabinets!

A year later and they have had a hugely successful launch recently winning the prestigious award of TECH TOY OF THE YEAR 2019 at the New York toy fair! The full line-up will be available nationwide this month. These cabinets where actually something I once sought myself after the faded away from arcades over the years and they were pricey back then and the price now is not bad for some retro custom gaming cabinets.

Launching first in the US, the machines have gone down a storm with fans finally having their favourite cabinets in their homes,This year they showed the games at Toy Fairs in London and New York and with the games now available for retail sale in the UK.

Arcade1Up are officially licensed versions of original videogames machines from the ‘Golden Age’ of gaming. These are ¾ scale replica copies of original arcade cabinets (full-size when used with an optional riser), complete with original artwork, controls (including rotary sticks, rollerballs and joysticks).

Each machine comes with multiple games and these are the original-code versions of the games, complete with techniques and tactics to learn, hidden features to exploit. So, if you could master Space Invaders patterns, exploit using the edge of the screen in Asteroids or rack-up extra lives in Defender back in the day… there’s nothing stopping you living that dream again!

Moodrise brings digital nutrition to Google Home and Amazon Alexa. #Moodrise #DigitalNutrition #Apps #MentalHealth

Moodrise, the world’s first Digital Nutrition app, has announced the launch of a unique audio program for Google Home and Amazon Alexa – Moodrise Audio – developed to help those suffering silently from a range of mental health disorders, such as anxiety and stress.

By pairing peer-reviewed science with content, Moodrise Audio delivers ‘nutritional’ 90-second audio clips, nicknamed ‘pillcasts’ to help alleviate pain, boost emotional resilience and improve people’s experience of everyday life.

The app’s hyper-curated audio content features readings and scores from exciting talent across industries, including actresses Kristen Scott Thomas and Daisy Lewis and musicians Devendra Banhart and JD Samson. Popular audio stimulation techniques such as Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) and Binaural Beats are also applied to the app.

Content within the pillcasts are focused on six of the most popular mood states and related neurotransmitters. These include Happiness (Serotonin), Confidence (Dopamine), Energy (Endorphins), Focus (Acetylcholine), Calm (GABA) and Connection (Oxytocin). Users of the app select which mood or mental state they wish to improve and are then served a series of different pillcasts. Each pillcast is supported by published scientific research and the content included has been specially created or curated to deliver the desired chemical reaction in the brain.

“Podcasting is a popular fixture of modern media, but programs are typically 60- to 90-minutes long. A pillcast is just 90 seconds of hyper-focused and easily digestible material, either created or curated to deliver better digital nutrition,” explains Michael Phillips Moskowitz, Founder and Creator of Moodrise. “The goal is to leverage intriguing, seductive, and utterly enjoyable pieces of audio, to help elevate mood and progressively improve emotional resilience. That’s our goal. Healthier digital material for better behavioural health.”

Musician Devendra Banhart comments: “Michael first introduced me to the term ‘digital hygiene’ and I’ve been feeling dirty ever since. Thankfully he created Moodrise Audio – a place where I can scrub off the day’s swipes and scrolls. A place to reset and let my guard down. A place of bare-bone tenderness, humour, and wisdom. I’m so honoured to be a contributor and curatorial consultant on this amazing app!”

JD Samson comments: “As an artist that has been focused on listening for the past 20 years, I have always imagined an intentional space for us to take pause with audio. Curating for Moodrise Audio meant going back to sounds that have enveloped me, changed my thinking, and collaborated with my ever-present healing methodology.”

In January this year, Michael launched Moodrise, the Digital Nutrition™ app for the mobile device that offers stimulating visual content to help users proactively manage their mental health.

Moodrise’s mobile and audio app versions are built on the premise that content can actually help heal, and healthy digital content must be a pillar of proactive wellness. There are no authoritative instructions to follow, no tough or tedious regimen to adopt, no costly time commitments. The apps are not designed to replace health professionals or medication but serve as a healthy supplement to enhance emotional resilience and mental wellbeing over time.
