Shannon-based EU Consortium awarded funding to develop Unmanned Flight Ecosystem.

A European consortium coordinated by Future Mobility Campus Ireland (FMCI) in Shannon has been approved by the EU to develop a ‘Digital Sky Demonstrator’, for aerial Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM) systems.

The research project, known as ‘EALU-AER’, will see FMCI and its consortium partners conduct engineering work at the FMCI facility to develop, deploy and optimise Europe’s unmanned flight ecosystem.

The three-year project involves Irish and European partners including Shannon Group, the Irish Aviation AuthorityCollins Aerospace (Ireland and France), Dublin-based Avtrain, and Deepblue in Italy.

Work will be based at FMCI’s Advanced Aerial Mobility Research Test and Development Facilities at Shannon, but will include a network of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) routes across Ireland.

FMCI sees this project as ground-breaking new research and a  major vote of confidence in Ireland’s resourcing of advanced air mobility development, and in the industry operators and expertise present locally.

The consortium received a three-year funding award from the SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking (JU) to develop unmanned aviation business opportunities in Ireland, in a collaborative research project that will also support modernisation of air traffic management in Europe.

The SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking is a European partnership of private and public-sector entities, established to accelerate delivery of the Digital European Sky through research and innovation.

The new funding will be deployed to build an end-to-end ecosystem that supports safe operation of unmanned flights, to help both conventional and unmanned aircraft safely integrate operations.

FMCI couldn’t be more pleased to be working with this consortium on the implementation of the EALU-AER programme. This will result in developing and building-out the critical infrastructure to allow advanced air mobility proliferate across Europe.  It will secure access to airspace for large numbers of drones and eVTOL aircraft, resulting in safe, cost-effective and sustainable transport of freight and people in the future” says Russell Vickers, CEO of Future Mobility Campus Ireland.

This award will help us work with our partners in Ireland to create a new industry that supports safe and connected unmanned flight,” says Boe Svatek, Unmanned Systems Value Stream Leader for Collins Aerospace.

As a founding member of the SESAR 3 JU, Collins Aerospace is actively and practically supporting its quest to modernise European air traffic management.”

The new research and development will significantly accelerate the advent of the drone and the urban air mobility economy, according to the consortium.

Welcoming the funding announcement under the CEF for Transport programme, CEO of Shannon Group, Mary Considine said:

This is exciting initiative in unpiloted aviation management.  Shannon Group is delighted to partner on the EALU-AER project and enable this important research and development to take place on the Shannon Campus.  Shannon Airport has been at the forefront of innovation over many decades, and it is essential that we help facilitate and participate in developing the new technology and processes that will allow unpiloted aviation to integrate with legacy airspace.”

Un-manned Aerial Systems (UAS) are expected to have a profound socio-economic impact across Europe, with extensive business, public services and social applications.

Dublin-based Avtrain is Europe’s leading drone pilot and operator training and certification organisation, and is proud to be part of the new industry collaboration, says the Avtrain CEO, Julie Garland.

We are entering a new era of innovation where the success of the industry will depend on the integration of unmanned aircraft into our airspace, rather than the segregation of airspace.

“We look forward to working with Collins Aerospace, FMCI, Shannon Group and our partners in the project to move the industry to the next level” the CEO of Avtrain commented.

Funded by Enterprise Ireland and industry partners, the unique FMCI campus at Shannon was selected as home to the unmanned flight ecosystem development project, on account of its state-of-the-art digital framework facilities and facilities, including a recently developed Advanced Air Mobility Hub.

FMCI has already worked with Skyports, Avtrain, Shannon Group and Federal Express trialling freight delivery services using autonomous, beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) drone operations.

Large enterprises, forced to innovate by supply chain disruption, see costs and complexity ramp up

Two-thirds (66%) of large enterprises globally say they are keeping more stock on hand now compared to the pre-pandemic period, with nearly one in five in total (18%) retaining ‘significantly more’ stock. This growing focus on taking innovative measures to address supply chain disruption is highlighted in new research commissioned by IFS, polling over 1,450 senior decision-makers at large enterprises across France, Germany, Nordics, USA, the UK and the UAE.

Further highlighting the impact of supply chain disruption, seven out of ten respondents polled for the survey (70%) said they had increased the number of suppliers of materials/products they use in response to recent supply chain issues. Moreover, nearly three-quarters (72%) of the survey sample claimed to have grown the proportion of materials/products they source from domestic suppliers as a result of these issues.

Together, these innovative measures are also likely to add more complexity and waste into the supply chain, at a time when increased regulatory burdens (highlighted by 15% as a primary contributor to their current business disruption) and the  need to tap into the many benefits of the circular economy is making supply chain management more complex. In line with this, it is positive that 93% of respondents said their organization was either embracing the circular economy today or planning to in the future.

However, many are facing challenges in terms of delivering on their goals, with around 60% of those saying they are in the process; still developing objectives; yet to plan programs; or have their objectives on hold. Even among those respondents already embracing the circular economy, 23% felt their customers’ circularity expectations were either having no impact on the customer experience or were detrimental to it, although over time the benefits of circularity in delivering a better customer experience are likely to become ever clearer.

So far, as the survey indicates, many large enterprises have re-engineered their supply chain in innovative ways to reduce the risk of this disruption. These include: onshoring to improve security of supply; keeping more stock on hand to make certain they can always meet demand and increasing the number of suppliers they use to eliminate any chance of disappointing customers.

Maggie Slowik, Global Industry Director for Manufacturing at IFS, said: “Large businesses are likely to incur much higher costs and other negative financial impacts because of the measures they are taking to mitigate disruption. Onshoring the supply chain will often lead to having to invest in more expensive raw materials or product components, especially as inflation ramps up, while keeping stock on hand will tie up significant sums that could otherwise be ‘working’ for the business.”

Despite the far-reaching benefits of the circular economy, the need to embrace it is nevertheless a source of disruption for many large enterprises – especially if their equipment and processes are not set up to deal with waste reduction and the re-use and recycling of materials. That’s particularly the case when you factor in the other macro-economic disruption that businesses are continuing to face from COVID-19 to the war in Ukraine.

At the same time, the survey reveals many large businesses are suffering from talent shortages. 65% of respondents say their organizations are finding it challenging to fill open roles, (with a lack of qualified applicants and skilled talent being the most prevalent reasons why), and 39% think disruption relating skills shortages within their organization will last beyond the end of 2022.

According to Slowik: “Businesses urgently need to find a solution that can help them to manage this disruption, which with price volatility is escalating ever further, transition to a circular economy and address the supply chain complexities we are dealing with today. To do this, especially when skills are in short supply, they will ultimately need to invest in technology that delivers the agility and fast time to insight that they need to better forecast demand. By addressing it now efficiently and cost-effectively, they will put themselves in a great position to not only survive but also thrive long into the future.”

Future of Bitcoin Trading in the United States of America

When it comes to Bitcoin trading, the United States of America is currently in a bit of a grey area. There is no federal or state-level regulation surrounding cryptocurrency exchanges, meaning that there is no real protection for investors. However, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The lack of regulation has allowed Bitcoin to flourish in the US, and many believe that it is only a matter of time before the government steps in and provides some clarity.

In the meantime, there are still plenty of opportunities for Americans to get involved in Bitcoin trading. There are numerous exchanges available, both online and offline, that allow users to buy and sell cryptocurrencies. The bitql app experience is tremendous. And with the recent surge in interest in Bitcoin, it’s likely that even more exchanges will spring up in the near future.

So, what does the future hold for Bitcoin trading in the US?

It’s hard to say for sure, but it seems likely that the government will eventually provide some clarity on the matter. Until then, American investors will continue to enjoy the freedom to trade Bitcoin without having to worry about regulatory uncertainty.

As the United States of America is one of the most influential countries in the world, the future of Bitcoin trading in the US could have a significant impact on the global market. Currently, there are a number of factors that suggest that Bitcoin trading in the US will continue to grow in popularity.

One of the primary reasons for this is the fact that the US has a very large and well-developed financial infrastructure. This means that there are a number of exchanges and institutions that are well-suited to facilitate Bitcoin trading. In addition, the US also has a very liquid and deep capital markets which provide ample opportunities for traders to profit from price movements.

Another positive factor that suggests that Bitcoin trading in the US will continue to grow is the fact that the US government has been relatively supportive of the cryptocurrency industry. In particular, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has made a number of positive statements about Bitcoin and other digital assets. This provides legitimacy to the industry and gives traders more confidence when investing in Bitcoin.

Of course, it is also worth noting that there are a number of challenges that need to be addressed before Bitcoin trading in the US can reach its full potential. For example, regulatory clarity is still lacking in many jurisdictions. In addition, there is still a lack of mainstream adoption. Nevertheless, it seems likely that Bitcoin trading in the US will continue to grow in popularity in the years to come.

The future of bitcoin trading in the United States of America is shrouded in uncertainty. The country’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has so far refused to approve a single bitcoin ETF. And last month, the commission rejected another high-profile proposal from investment firm VanEck.

But that doesn’t mean there isn’t hope for bitcoin ETFs in the US. In fact, SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce has been a big proponent of crypto-related products and has even publicly expressed her disappointment with the agency’s decision to reject VanEck’s proposal.

It’s also worth noting that the SEC is currently reviewing several other bitcoin ETF proposals. So it’s possible that one or more of these could be approved in the near future.

At the end of the day, the future of bitcoin trading in the US will largely depend on the SEC’s stance on crypto-related products. If the agency eventually approves a bitcoin ETF, it would likely spur more interest and investment in the digital currency. However, if the SEC continues to reject all proposals, it could discourage companies from even bothering to submit any new ones.

As the popularity of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies continues to grow, so does the number of people looking to trade them. In the United States, there are a few different exchanges that offer Bitcoin trading. However, it is important to note that the future of Bitcoin trading in the US is uncertain.

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has been hesitant to approve any Bitcoin-based exchange-traded products. This is because they are concerned about the potential for fraud and manipulation. However, the SEC has said that it is considering approving a Bitcoin ETF. If this happens, it would make it much easier for investors to trade Bitcoin.

Another development that could have an impact on the future of Bitcoin trading in the US is the launch of Bakkt. Bakkt is a Bitcoin futures exchange that is backed by Microsoft and Starbucks.

Lime establishes Irish Disability Advisory Board to ensure safe and responsible rollout of shared micromobility services

Lime – the world’s largest shared electric vehicle company – has today announced the establishment of an Irish Disability Advisory Board ahead of its expected rollout of e-scooter and e-bike sharing services in Irish towns and cities next year.

The Irish Wheelchair Association and the National Council for the Blind of Ireland (NCBI) will be founding members of the board, which will also be supported by local cycling organisations. The group is being established to help ensure that Lime’s for-hire e-scooter and e-bike services are designed in a safe and responsible way, without negatively impacting local residents or visitors with disabilities or access needs. Lime welcomes further applications from relevant organisations to the Board.

John Fulham, Public Engagement Manager for the Irish Wheelchair Association said, “Irish Wheelchair Association welcomes the opportunity to be involved in Lime’s Irish Disability Advisory Board, where we can offer our advice and represent the voice of people with disabilities as the country prepares for the official introduction of e-scooters in Ireland. It is important that the voice of disabled people is heard and represented in the discussions from as early a stage as is possible.”

Lorna Fitzpatrick, Advocacy and Engagement Manager at NCBI said, “NCBI is happy to participate in Lime’s Irish Disability Advisory Board to share our views that are reflective of the experiences of people who are blind or vision impaired across the country. It is of paramount importance that the experiences of people living with sight loss and all people with access and  mobility requirements are heard and considered as Lime prepares to create a presence in Ireland.”

Hal Stevenson, Lime Senior Public Affairs Manager for Lime in Ireland said, “Safety and inclusivity are central to Lime’s services, wherever we operate, so we’re really proud to be setting up our Irish Disability Advisory Board ahead of the launch of our services here next year. Each organisation provides a different perspective, and their insights and opinions will help us to design and deliver services that can have a positive impact across all communities.”

The Board’s first meeting will take place in July and will meet on a quarterly basis thereafter. Minutes and actions will be recorded during each meeting and shared with Lime’s partner local authorities to ensure full transparency and accountability. The group will be consulted ahead of Lime implementing any new products or service changes in Ireland. Lime will also provide opportunities for the Board to collaborate with its pre-existing Northern European Disability Advisory Board.

Following recent delays to e-scooter legislation in Ireland, Lime is expecting to launch services here in 2023. Commenting on delays to the Government’s legislation to regulate e-scooters, Stevenson added,  “the delays to legislation are unfortunate and prevent safer and more sustainable use of e-scooters in Ireland. Lime is using this additional time to work with the policy makers to ensure  that when regulations are passed they are progressive and proportionate, helping to create a future of transport in Ireland that is shared, green and affordable.”

Top differences between the software and hardware wallets

Have you ever thought of how you’d feel if peradventure you lose your assets? Maybe you lost your wallet, or your assets were withdrawn without your consent, or your wallet was hacked? How do you think you’d feel? You must note that as much as you keep buying more crypto, you also make a conscious effort to keep your holdings safe. There are more than enough reasons you can lose your assets, and one of the rampant ones is through your wallets.

Choosing the right wallet for your crypto assets could be a little stressful, especially if you don’t know the one. However, there are two broad categories of wallets that you can select, depending on your assets. Nonetheless, irrespective of your wallet, you can be sure you have crypto recovery services readily available because anything could come up at any time.

There are two types of wallets: the software and hardware wallet. Each of them has its unique properties and also some similarities. Here are some of the differences between the hardware and software wallets.

Mode of storage

Although both hardware and software wallets aim; to store and enhance the safety of investors’ assets, their mode of storage differs. A hardware wallet stores assets offline using a physical medium, while the software wallet has its storage on a computer. While most people prefer a software wallet because of its ease of usage and accessibility, other individuals prefer the hardware wallet because it’s harder to get hacked. So, before you choose a suitable wallet type, ensure you first consider their storage mode and choose the one that works perfectly for you.

Level of security

As mentioned above, their level of security differs. Although you should have crypto recovery services available for both wallets, it’s better and easier on software wallets. However, the hardware wallet is highly secured and immune to cyberattacks since it has no affiliation to the internet. The software wallet, on the other hand, is susceptible to cyber-attacks and needs an extra layer of protection. One way to ensure your assets are protected when you use the software wallet is by making sure you have recovery services available. With this, you can rest assured that when your wallet gets compromised, you can easily have it restored.

Price

One of the core differences between the software and hardware wallet is price. It is also one determining factor most people consider before choosing which one to store their assets in. While there’s nothing wrong with considering the price differences, it is worth noting that your crypto assets are important, and you should be willing to do whatever it takes to keep them safe at all times and at all costs. The hardware wallets are more expensive than the software wallet. While the hardware wallet comes with a fixed price tag, the software wallets are free. So, with your smartphone, you can store your asset in apps, which are mostly free. You need not worry about paying to keep your assets safe when you use the software wallet. However, you must have crypto recovery services ready at your disposal because of their level of vulnerability to cyberattacks.

Accessibility

The hardware wallet might seem more like the most accessible, but it’s not. Imagine having your assets stored in Germany, and you will be traveling to the United States the following week. This means that for the time you’ll be aware, you have no access to your crypto assets until you are back from your trip. The software wallet, on the other hand, is reading accessible and available. You can have the software on your PC, tablet, or even your smartphone, so wherever you go, since there’s internet access and electricity, your wallet remains accessible. All you need is your login detail, and you can send and receive assets anywhere in the world within seconds of transaction.

Your crypto assets storage should be one of your top priorities. As much as you invest in the crypto community, it is essential you also invest in the storage. So, whether you have the asset stored for the long-term or short-term, you can choose from either of these wallet storage types to ensure the safety of your assets.

Metaverse

The Metaverse has become an emerging trend, but there is no clarity as to how this will affect gaming in mobile. This year mobile gaming has been joined to the Metaverse enabling enhanced gameplay. Among them are: Fortnite concerts. Various companies like Nike land on Roblox also have gaming worlds built on. Start-ups are preparing to help build a metaverse infrastructure and offer its users the tools for creating and maintaining the metaverse, such as creating real life avatars. Soon it will be more accessible for people with an interest in reading the Metaverse in 2021.

Increased gaming socialization

Mobile game interaction grew as more people became involved via social media. During the pandemic the isolation and constant search for interaction have made mobile gaming an important social area for people. 45% of American gamers use Facebook chat while playing. Most Americans have started a liking for online modes and multiplayer games over single player games. Games developers will benefit from new features such as guilds, social networks, chat rooms, etc. Social media has been gaining popularity among gamers as he has become increasingly popular with gamers.

Cross-platform mobile gaming

Developers are interested in making the game available to a variety of platforms, including laptop, mobile phones and tablets. The app is made up of cross-platform technology which allows quick discovery of its functionality.

Hyper-Casuals will take the lead

Hyper-casual games offer gamers a chance at relaxation without increasing intelligence. The global online gaming industry will forecast growth of 1% by 2019, the company said. Market predictions and assessments thus indicate a high growth of hyper-casual video game industry in 2025. Many famous examples such as Candy Crush Monster Strike and Coin master have quickly become tough competition in game play on PC and console.

Multiplayer functionality

Mobile games can be played in many different formats than a gaming console. Several are accessed and more will become available in 2022. Mobile phone apps are an all-encompassing multi-player game. Recently the world has witnessed a booming multiplayer game craze. In 2022 multiplayer game is expected to become an increasingly prominent trend with the rise of mobile games. Mobile games are intended to help you boost mental energy, relax yourself, or strengthen your relationships. We want everyone to have fun playing on the Internet.

Artificial Intelligence in Gaming

Artificial intelligence can certainly enhance gameplay and playability. AI in games could tell you whether your games are successful. It’s already been mentioned that popular technology is gaining popularity. Ultimately, AR and AI technology will change gaming. AI will be more influential on gaming over the next decade, according to our predictions. AI helps developers create fun games. AI aims to improve NPC learning abilities. NPCs may use artificial intelligence for their responses, making video games trickier.

Mobile Cloud Gaming

Mobile cloud gaming is good for learning how to live. Additionally, the subscription model influences developers’ motivation more. They can also easily integrate certain payment options with gaming strengths. So, a user can build strength and use tools such as Fortnight Candy Crush / PUBG for quick and efficient performances in any situation. Developers’ earnings surely are flawless if they can access remote servers without hardware assistance and access downloadable software from remote servers.

Gaming with Augmented Reality

In augmented reality games, AR can combine graphics and video to create a visual interface which allows a user to experience a game’s content in real-time. Contrary to VR gaming AR uses current environment to create playable environments. You do not require special headsets for AR devices. User can view and play virtual reality games using mobile device. A very advanced example of AR game applications with GPS, smartphones and cameras is Pokémon Go. The system supports location-specific AR environments.

Wearable technology

Wearables is an e-gypsum that uses a sensor that enables users to monitor, identify, and communicate information directly with the user. Fitness rings, wristbands, and smart watches are a few typical wearable devices that utilize wearable technology. Three Ireland announces 175 new jobs in its award-winning Limerick customer experience centre to support Three UK business customers

Three Ireland today announced a strong expansion of its operations at its Limerick customer experience centre, with the creation of 175 new jobs over the next four years as the Irish office begins to export services to Three UK business customers for the first time.

The 175 new jobs will include both full time and part time positions and openings across a range of job titles and experience levels in the B2B sector. The employment opportunities will range from Customer Care, Team Leaders, Operations and Management.

The Limerick customer experience centre has a strong history in Castletroy, originally established over 20 years ago and currently employing close to 400 people. Given the skills, expertise and talent in the Limerick centre, it is well placed to advise international clients across a broad range of connectivity services including IoT, ICT products and cost management. The continued and steady growth of our care teams in Limerick is a testament to the continued career development programmes and upskilling opportunities available to Three Ireland employees.  The expansion to support business customers in the UK market is the realisation of a key strategic objective for the team in Limerick. This project is supported by the Irish Government through IDA Ireland.

Tánaiste & Minister for Enterprise Trade & Employment Leo Varadkar TD said: “These 175 new jobs for Castletroy are really welcome news from Three Ireland. For over 20 years, Three Ireland has invested in Limerick and the Mid-West region, creating jobs and providing services. These new jobs further strengthen the company’s presence and commitment to Limerick and are a testament to the existing staff in Castletroy. The best of luck to the team with this latest expansion.”

Announcing the new jobs, Robert Finnegan, CEO of Three Ireland and Three UK, said: “This expansion of operations in our award-winning Limerick Customer Experience Centre demonstrates the strength of Three’s customer service in Ireland and we are very excited to build on the high standard of talent we have. As the largest mobile telecommunications provider in Ireland by market share, with the fastest overall network, our Customer Care was awarded Contact Centre of the year in 2021 and we’re extremely happy to bring this exceptional level of service to our Three UK Business customers as well.

This also underlines our commitment to Limerick as an employment hub into the long-term. Three Ireland has been investing and growing in Limerick for over 20 years, and today, we are reaffirming and increasing that commitment with the creation of these roles”.

IDA CEO Martin Shanahan said: “Three’s decision to expand the strategic operations at its Customer Experience Centre in Limerick is terrific news for the Mid-West Region and demonstrates Three’s confidence in its ability to service international clients from Limerick. I wish to congratulate Three on this expansion and assure the team of IDA Ireland’s continued support.”
