Bolt, the European mobility champion, is adding additional electric bikes to each of its regional schemes in anticipation of demand this Spring and Summer. Sligo and Kilkenny will benefit from 30 additional electric bikes each, bringing the total in each town to 100 and 80 respectively.
Bolt Operations Manager for Rentals in Ireland, John Buckley, said, “We have been thrilled by the success of our shared electric bike schemes in Sligo and Kilkenny. Our team at Bolt assesses a location, we agree on a max number of bikes with its Local Authority, and we gradually ramp up supply based on how riders, pedestrians, and other road users become accustomed to the scheme. This allows for controlled and responsible operations. With the additional parking bays in place, Sligo and Kilkenny are ready for the final tranche of electric bikes. Since launching in the summer of 2022, over 120,000 KM has been travelled on our Electric Bikes across our locations and, with additional schemes to come in 2023, we hope to reach 300,000 KM by the end of the year.”
Bolt surveyed electric bike users in Sligo and Kilkenny that opted for this sustainable mode of transport over cars and found that the shared scheme has saved 16,913 km of car trips in Ireland to date, approximately 1,765 kg of CO2.
Each town has successfully utilised over 40 designated parking bays thanks to town councils and local businesses that recognised the demand for infrastructure. To ensure the continued growth of the schemes, 10 more parking bays have been earmarked for each town.
Sligo Councillor Marie Casserly said, “This initiative is so positive for Sligo town. The feedback has been universally positive from locals and visitors alike. To see these bikes being used so often is heartening. It also shows that Sligo County Council take our Active Travel and Climate Action plan responsibilities seriously and we are all playing our part.
There is a positive progressive image with the inclusion of the Bolt electric bike scheme.”
Gerard Moore, Director and General Manager of Sligo Park Hotel said, “We are thrilled with the news that Bolt bicycles are increasing the number of bicycles in Sligo up to its full complement of 100. The bicycles have been used and are being used by our guests and employees and the feedback has been fantastic. We’re delighted to be associated with Bolt and Sligo County Council on this initiative.”
Bolt has previously earmarked up to €5m in its bid to roll out electric bike operations across Irish cities and towns with up to 2000 bikes available to deploy immediately as required. The European Mobility Champion recently announced upcoming launches of shared electric bike schemes in Bray and Wexford.
The Government recently committed to promoting e-mobility solutions in cities and towns and will be relying on such schemes to provide essential alternatives for commuters as Demand Management solutions are considered in the coming year.

Tranya have just dropped a new product onto their portfolio of tech and it is geared towards the fitness folk and much more and they are the all new X5 sports earbuds. Well these do wrap around the ears giving you a better secure fit and are packed with features for the fitness enthusiast only that there is more on offer when it comes to the spec sheet for those who are into the specs.
Check out the features below and while we test them as always feel free to ask any questions you might have and we will gladly answer and stay tuned for a full hands on review soon on our YouTube channel and of course here.
The Jabra Evolve2 buds are the ideal partner to have if you work from home or in the office and use more than one device and if you are into meetings which is more common than ever these days these earbuds is what you need and if you like your music too well then these solve all these problems in one go and the thing is they are portable and can be brought anywhere and it is a super simple set-up with the dongle to switch between two devices which for me is key and a multipoint connection is for me something that is a must and again for those who work in either closed or open office space environments.
The design of the earbuds is familiar with their current range and for me is fine they work well and fit perfectly with the right tips and again this is something I always point out when using earbuds to get the best out of them and these also come with the MyFit option to ensure you have them set up at optimum levels which will benefit you in the end so do not skip the process, you can if you life however you will not get the full performance they offer if not, it only takes a few minutes and is worth it, trust me.
The App
The app as always is excellent although this time around it has being tailored towards the use of teams we have covered the app multiple times here on site but we do take a look in more detail in the video review below.. As expected the app is full of features and allows you take control of what you want and need with a nice UI and it is simple to navigate.
The sound
OK well what more would you expect from Jabra then? They sound great from all aspects of use be it connected to PC or phone and the same applies for using teams on both, there was some lag latency noted at first but an updated chimed through during testing and seems to have fixed it, like any other pair of Jabra earbuds I have used the I was confident these would not disappoint and that they did not given they are geared for Teams and UC platforms. In short these Evolve2 buds are a one stop shop for those who want to still enjoy their music and spend much of their day on Teams calls with no issues at all noted and drop outs during my testing.
Widget
Dongle
The only thing noted was the ANC is not up to par at this price-point however these are a more targeted pair of earbuds towards the office if you will rather than a whole music experience but they overall as mentioned still are a one stop shop for those who are in the environments and you have a nice widget you can use on your phone to swap between modes also giving you the stats at hand for reference.
Key features of the Evolve2 Buds:
Certified for Microsoft Teams and leading UC platforms – for enhanced collaboration experience
MultiSensor Voice technology – ensures professional call performance by using multiple mics and Jabra algorithms to block out noise
Plug-and-play USB adapter for enhanced connectivity – 20 metre/65 feet rangeallows users the freedom to move around their work environment
Advanced Multipoint connection – connect to two devices at one time
Adjustable Active Noise Cancellation – filters out background noise allowing for increased focus

ESB Science Blast, delivered by the RDS, hosted an event today bringing together leaders in industry, the education sector, local government and STEM to highlight the importance of STEM education within society. According to the organisers behind ESB Science Blast, promoting and fostering a passion for STEM in primary school children is key to developing the critical skills and mindsets required to meet Ireland’s future skills needs.
Dr Niamh Shaw, ESA Champion, engineer, scientist, writer, and performer delivered the keynote address at the event discussing the positive impact of ESB Science Blast and how it has affected the lives of the pupils and teachers who participate.
Niamh is Ireland’s first and only ESA Champion in Education, an award bestowed on her in 2022 by ESA Director General Josef Aschbacher in recognition for her work in promoting space in her education and communications work.
Speaking about her involvement in the programme, Dr Niamh Shaw said “I am very passionate about being involved in the ESB Science Blast programme. It’s hugely important that we make children aware of STEM as a career choice, especially young girls. The programme helps to eliminate the idea that STEM is just physics or maths and can open young minds up to the possibility that STEM is all around us. And I believe it’s because each project is rooted in the children’s natural curiosity for the topic that they have decided to understand better.
“Another impact of the programme is that we are helping children to develop life-long skills in science and problem solving, by nurturing their innate curiosity about the world around them. This is where science, art and all STEM subjects have emerged from. A class starts with a simple question which they are encouraged to be curious about and throughout the project they develop communication skills, critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration. No matter the future career choice, these skills will have an impact on our society as a whole, equipping future generations with the skills needed to face challenges such as climate change and pandemics.”
Dr Shaw’s keynote address was followed by a panel discussion with experts in education and STEM including:
Sorcha Browne Byrne, Assistant Lecturer Mathematics Education, Marino Institute of Education (MC and panellist)
Frank Ó Tormaigh, Education Officer (Digital), COGG
Dr. Claire Murphy, Chief Technical Officer Specialist | Anatomy Discipline | School of Medicine, TCD
Veronica Ward, teacher and STEM learning facilitator, Dublin 7 Educate Together National School, Arran Quay
Speaking at the breakfast event today (28.02.23), Geraldine Ruane, Chief Executive of the RDS, said ” Under the RDS Science and Technology foundation pillar we set out to achieve impact at a child’s formative stage. It is not just about academic choices or career opportunities, we aim to develop scientifically literate citizens.
“Today we are bringing together leaders in industry, education, local government and STEM to highlight the importance of STEM education in our society and to reflect on the impact that the RDS’s Foundation flagship programme, ESB Science Blast programme, has had over the last five years. It’s also important for our stakeholders to meet and speak with our real STEM experts – the school pupils – to see the impact the programme has had.
“To meet the needs of an everchanging, rapidly evolving society, the RDS developed and has delivered the largest STEM-based primary school education programme in Ireland and across Europe: ESB Science Blast. The programme equips our young people with fundamental life-long scientific and problem-solving skills. The programme is a core building block for Ireland’s future preparing our children for the challenges and opportunities they may face in years to come. Our goal is to ensure that our young people see that science can and should be for everyone.”
The breakfast event was hosted as part of ESB Science Blast which is taking place in the RDS Simmonscourt all this week. ESB Science Blast, delivered by the RDS, is a STEM-focused education programme involving whole classes investigating the science behind a simple question, such as “how will climate change affect baby sharks?”.
Nowadays, air conditioning is an absolute necessity in many parts of the world. Without it, hot climates would be unbearable. But what exactly goes into cooling our homes? In this post, we will explore the science behind air conditioning and show you how modern technology helps us cool our homes and purify indoor air.
1. Heating, Ventilating, And Air Conditioning (HVAC)
This comprehensive system is made up of several key components that ensure the proper flow of air inside buildings. HVAC units include an evaporator coil for cooling and a condenser coil for heat transfer. An outdoor compressor pumps refrigerant through copper pipes which allow cooled or heated air to be circulated inside the building.
Regular maintenance of your air conditioning system is important in order to ensure it is running as efficiently as possible. This includes changing air filters, checking refrigerant levels, and ensuring all components are working properly. If you need professional help with any of these AC services, an experienced technician can provide expert advice on how to best maintain and repair the system for optimal performance.
2. Air Filters
Air filters are an essential part of any air conditioning system, as they help to trap particles like dust, pollen and other contaminants in order to purify indoor air quality. It is important to regularly change or clean these filters in order to maintain the effectiveness of the system, as they can become clogged over time with dirt and debris which hinders their performance.
Changing these filters on a regular basis helps promote better air quality while also making sure the system runs efficiently. By taking this extra step, you can ensure your air conditioning system works at its optimal level for years to come.
3. Thermostat
The thermostat is a key component of an air conditioning system as it helps regulate the temperature levels inside a building by turning the system on and off when needed. It also allows users to customize their desired temperature, either via manual or programmable settings.
4. Humidifiers
Humidifiers are used in air conditioning systems to adjust humidity levels in order to prevent dryness and maintain a comfortable environment. This is especially important in hot and humid climates where the air tends to be more damp.
5. Air Purifiers
Air purifiers use filters, activated carbon or ultraviolet light to remove contaminants from indoor air, such as bacteria, mold spores, dust mites and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
These systems are often seen as beneficial for people with allergies or asthma as they can help reduce symptoms by removing irritants from the air, another option to look out for in case you need it is aircon repair.
6. Refrigerants
Refrigerants are the key component in air conditioning systems used to transfer heat. They are used to cool down the air so it can be circulated indoors, by absorbing and releasing heat as they pass through a series of coils.
7. Insulation
Proper insulation is necessary for maintaining comfortable temperatures inside buildings, especially during extreme weather changes.
It helps reduce energy costs and keeps conditioned air from escaping outside, while also preventing outdoor hot or cold temperatures from entering the building.
8. Zoning Systems
Zoning systems divide a single HVAC system into multiple areas which can be individually controlled with thermostats, allowing different rooms to have different temperature settings based on user preference. This also helps to reduce energy costs by only cooling or heating areas that are being used.
In Conclusion
Air conditioning systems are an effective way to maintain comfortable temperatures at home or in the office. From HVAC units to thermostats and humidifiers, modern technology has come a long way to make these systems more efficient than ever before. It is important to regularly maintain your system by changing filters and other components as needed, not only for optimal performance but also to ensure you benefit from clean and pure indoor air quality.
