Discover some of the world’s most incredible animals in Tinybop’s new app, Mammals #STEM

Tinybop, Inc., makers of award-winning educational apps loved by millions of kids around the world, has launched Mammals on the App Store, the latest addition to its series of STEM apps for kids..

Mammals immerses kids in the fascinating world of mammals to spark a deeper understanding of these incredible animals. Kids can discover how the animals play, grow, see, eat, move and feel. Future zoologists are able to explore dynamic working models of different mammals, including their skeletal, muscular, nervous, circulatory, respiratory, and digestive systems.

Featuring original artwork by U.S. based illustrator, Wenjia Tang, the app’s illustrations react dynamically to kids’ touch; physics-based animations and sounds encourage curiosity. Every mammal is interactive, allowing kids to look through the eyes of each, and learn how an elephant uses its trunk, discover how a tiger senses what’s near with its whiskers, see how kangaroos care for their young, find out how bats use echolocation, and more.

Tinybop’s founder and CEO Raul Gutierrez, explains: I don’t think I’m going out on a limb in saying most kids are fascinated with animals. With many kids, that

fascination starts with mammals (kids are often surprised to learn they are mammals themselves). My boys are city kids who love zoos and natural history museums;

the challenge with Mammals the app was creating interactions that enhance those real world experiences. We did that by diving into animal anatomy. If we’ve done our job, kids who explore the app will be full of questions, not just about tigers and bats, but also about pet dogs and cats, and ultimately about themselves.

To support kids’ learning, parents and teachers can download The Mammals Handbook, a free, expert-reviewed companion to the app. The Mammals Handbook includes background information, discussion questions, and technology tips. It’s available in the Explorer’s Library, a series of STEM apps for kids, designed to inspire curiosity and foster lifelong learning about the world.

Mammals and other Explorer’s Library apps teach science literacy by encouraging a child’s natural tendency to learn by observing, questioning, and experimenting. Tinybop’s Explorer’s Library lets kids explore a broad range of topics: anatomy in The Human Body, botany in Plants, geography in Homes, physics in Simple Machines, geology in The Earth, meteorology in Weather, engineering in Skyscrapers, and astronomy in Space.

Parkpnp – Is the future of parking with a new app. #Parking #StartUp #irish

Parkpnp was co-founded by Garret Flower and Daniel Paul. This Irish company who has developed an exciting new platform which allows motorists to find their perfect parking space. They work with home-owners, businesses and carparks to make under-used parking spaces available to the public. Ensuring cheaper and more convenient parking for all.

Parkpnp allows motorists to find, book & pay for the cheapest parking space near them. Parkpnp’s online marketplace allows home-owners, businesses, hotels and car parks to rent their under-used spaces to our community of drivers looking for parking. Resulting in much appreciated extra income for the space-owners and massive savings of time and money for drivers.

Parking can be an absolute nightmare. We all have horror stories of having to drive around aimlessly looking for parking, only to end up miles away from where we want to go and paying a premium for the privilege.

Parkpnp secured seed investment €500,000 from Sean Melly’s venture capital firm Powerscourt Capital and Enterprise Ireland. This has allowed Parkpnp grow into Ireland’s number one destination for parking seekers with 1,000s of spaces available for motorists to book.

Parkpnp was co-founded by Garret Flower and Daniel Paul. And they explain some more about their idea below..

Parkpnp was co-founded by Garret Flower and Daniel Paul. Flower successfully founded Krust Bakery, a wholesale, distribution and retail company based on George’s street employing 15, before turning his attention to the parking problem. While Paul a self-taught coder set-up his first business StudyNotes.ie at 16 years of age, now 23 he is one of Ireland’s most respected programmers. Flower & Paul are supported by an experienced team including parking veteran Donal O’Hagan who has spent 25 years in the parking industry and CMO Daithí de Buitléir who has worked with large global brands including Heineken, Three & Unilever.

A major step forward for Parkpnp was the installation of the first cash-free parking system in Ireland in Crowne Plaza Hotel Dublin Airport. The system allows drivers to enter, pay and exit carparks all through their phone, signalling an end to the era of lost tickets and loose change.

Our marketplace is two-fold. We have thousands of space-owners who are looking to make extra money from empty space. While drivers all across Dublin are flocking to Parkpnp to find the best value and most convenient parking spaces near them.

Parkpnp believe that by using space smartly they can ensure cities have extra space for all the amenities they need to thrive. Parkpnp are committed to building smart cities all over the world who use space in a way which allows for vibrant, healthy and sustainable urban communities.

Getting started is really easy, all you have to do is download the app, it’s available for iOS, Android or register online. If people have any other questions just send a message at Parkpnp.com.

Nike go into the phone case business with iPhone cases.#Nike #iPhone #Cases

Fancy the sole of your Nike shoe on your mobile phone, Well its about to happen..

I am a huge Nike fan even though of late their prices for their retro trainers are double what the command price was when the OG versions where around and I in fact own a pretty unique collection of trainers myself which are very noteworthy also including the all new vapormax. (See below sample of collection) But what has this to do with tech, well there is tech invovled in some trainers but they have gone into the phone case business and these two combined has my attention.. But for now they are just for the god dam iPhone and again something the Americans like to do is USA ONLY which for me is stupid.Would remind you of Microsoft in more ways than one.

So why has this got me interested? I like my tech,my trainers and my phones, what I dont like is how they have launched the idea,Ok Perhaps its testing the water but limited availability and one phone…Come on.. Nike you could be onto something here.. In fact you are….

The cases do not come cheap but then again they fall on an average price range offering just about enough but you are paying for the brand and the sole of a shoe to slap on your mobile phone, Trainer fans will love this be it something you might not keep on your phone all day but it is something different and its a cool idea and perhaps we could see this now expand from other shoe manufacturers. One thing I would suggest is that Nike open their eyes some more and spread the range…

See them over HERE What do you think then……Tell us..

#FirstUp is an alarm clock app that will reward you for getting up. #Irish #Apps #GetUp

Geting up in the morning… Ahem….. Not something I like doing and it is the worst time to catch me and I am sure there is many others like me.. BUT…how about knowing you will get rewarded for getting up and forgetting that snooze button?

TWO young Irish entrepreneurs have developed alarm clock app that rewards its users for getting up in the morning and its called First Up and its free on both Android and iOS….

The app, called FirstUp, has signed its first national partnership with Pieta House, supported by Electric Ireland and will be providing users with rewards such as healthy breakfasts and discounted taxis for waking up using the FirstUp alarm.

FirstUp was co-founded by Ruaidhri Finnegan and Dan Moriarty (27), and over 2000 people signed up to take part in an early release version of the app, which is being launched on the 11th of May.

Brian Higgins, CEO, Pieta House said: “With the amazing turnout of this year’s Darkness into Light event, we wanted people to really understand the positive impact their decision to brave the early hours of Saturday morning had for Pieta House – and we thought what better way to do this then by rewarding them for waking up in the morning! We view FirstUp as an innovative and exciting young Irish company with real potential and we’re delighted to be involved with them in exploring avenues to engage participants of Darkness into Light in a meaningful and positive way.”

When contacted for a comment on the launch, Dan Moriarty, cofounder of FirstUp said: ‘I’m looking forward to working with our all-important first users to improve both our product and our user’s mornings now and into the future”.

Ruaidhri Finnegan said: “Most alarm clocks seem to want to shock or frighten you into waking, which if you think about is not exactly the most welcoming start to the day. We want to turn this on its head by having an alarm app that not only looks and sounds great – but actually gives you reward goals to work towards in exchange for using our alarm.”

Pieta House and Electric Ireland through the FirstUp app are offering users €5 mytaxi (formerly Hailo) vouchers and deals in popular healthy restaurant chain Cocu to their users for waking up using the FirstUp alarm. The intention is to utilise FirstUp as a channel to celebrate Electric Ireland’s successful partnership Pieta House’s Darkness into Light event that brought over 150,000 people out across Ireland in aid of suicide prevention awareness.

How FirstUp works: All users have to do is pick their desired reward and then turn their alarm off each morning. Users repeat this process until they have earned the necessary number of “sleeps” they need to redeem their reward (only 1 sleep can be earned per calendar day). An email is then sent to the user with a unique code to redeem the reward.

Settings are easy to follow and navigate as seen above in the screenshots so you will have no issues at all finding your way around the app with easy to follow headings… You can set a 12/2HR Clock, Alarm Type, (9 tunes to pick from) Volume level and Vibrate option…

Foobot Launches its Leading Smart Indoor Air Quality Monitor. #Airboxlab #Footbot

Foobot also works alongside other smart home devices taking direct action if pollution levels exceed a set amount. Perfect for allergy or asthma sufferers, the elderly, children or those of you facing the daily smog filled commute to work.

The air quality monitor which helps you take control of your indoor air quality, making the invisible, visible..

Luxembourg based company, Airboxlab, today announces that its connected indoor air quality monitor, Foobot, is now available in the UK. Foobot is the brainchild of CEO, Jacques Touillon, who wanted to help his eldest child in his fight against asthma and after looking without success for a device to fight this invisible enemy was determined to improve his son’s health and to develop a solution himself. Foobot was born.

Foobot is the most advanced data processing smart monitor in the market, helping you take control of your indoor air quality, either by working with other home automation devices or simply by giving you detailed knowledge of something which is effectively invisible. By scanning your environment day and night and learning from your habits, Foobot will provide you warnings and actionable advice to keep your air in the home fresh and pollution free. It constantly measures VOCs, PM2.5s, CO2, temperature and humidity, and logs them in five minute intervals to find the best solution for air quality needs.

Poor air quality can impair our health, leading to symptoms such as fatigue, headaches, eye, nose and throat infections and can aggravate allergies and asthma. To protect our health and preserve our quality of life, indoor air quality is fundamental. Foobot turns invisible indoor pollution into a tangible, visible thing thanks to its soft coloured LED light, meaning air quality can be easily viewed and assessed and appropriate action can be taken if required to improve it.

Most consumers who purchase Foobot use it as a source of knowledge, empowering them to make better choices and decisions. Foobot provides the right information at the right time to take care of existing problems and prevent the creation of new ones. This could be as simple as opening a window but with Foobot you’ll know exactly when it’s required and for how long – very useful if it’s freezing cold outside or you live on a main road! The Foobot app gives you access to real time information, so over a longer period of time, helps you understand which household products, carpets or even furniture are releasing a frequent dose of pollutant. With this knowledge, you can amend your behaviour and habits to avoid pollution production. It also creates a more comfortable living space for the whole family by ensuring it is at the right temperature and humidity. Temperature can also affect the release of pollutants in your house, such as when temperatures rise, the glue present in everyday furniture emits more formaldehyde, a well-known carcinogenic VOC.

https://vimeo.com/foobot/meet

Foobot can also work closely with other smart home devices with a connected thermostat such as Google Nest to control your home’s temperature or can communicate directly with Amazon Echo. When any pollutants exceed healthy levels, Foobot will relay this information allowing Alexa to talk about the problem to you via voice and suggest possible solutions. Foobot can essentially be an active part of the smart home ecosystem helping trigger the ventilation, filtration, purification system or appliances. With the help of IFTTT, Foobot can also connect to 120+ home appliances, including HIVE, the connected thermostat from British Gas.

Foobot uses internal sensors to check for pollution in the form of chemicals and particulate matter, which are up to five times more common indoors as a result of confinement and alerts you via its companion app and the LEDs on the device itself. The device is sensitive to:

•            PM2.5s – Particulate matter smaller than 2.5 micrometres, like dust, pollen and pet dander

•             VOCs – Volatile organic compounds, toxic gases like formaldehyde and ammonia. This sensor is also sensitive to carbon monoxide, a potentially dangerous gas.

•             Carbon dioxide – Exhaled naturally from humans. Not itself harmful, but indicative of poor circulation. This is measured via data from other sensors.

•             Humidity – Low humidity can cause irritation. Excessive humidity let mould and dust mites grow.

•             Temperature – Mostly for comfort, but still important to optimise

Indoor air pollution isn’t just a threat at home. We spend an average of 90% of our lives indoors, whether in a school, office, hotel, hospital or at the shopping centre. Aside from long-term health benefits, breathing clean air keeps people awake and productive, so they can work, study and play.

Clean air is even more critical for people suffering or recovering from health issues. At hospitals, well-circulated air can minimise the spread of airborne diseases. Since children are particularly susceptible to asthma, clean air at schools is perhaps more important than at home given their high occupancies. In the UK, around 5.4 million people suffer from asthma that pollution can exacerbate. For those affected, air pollution reduces life expectancy by an average of over eleven years. This is nearly 5% of all annual UK deaths but amazingly, there is very little awareness of the problem, making air pollution an invisible public health crisis that affects much of the UK.

SEE https://foobot.io/for more and we will have our review in the coming weeks
