Revolut launches Instant Access Savings in Ireland

Revolut, the global financial app used by more than 40 million customers worldwide, has today rolled-out Instant Access Savings accounts to its more than 2.7 million customers in Ireland. Instant Access Savings accounts are a new and better way for customers in Ireland to save their money. Customers will be able to earn daily, competitive interest of up to 3.49% AER on their deposits, all in just a few taps.

Instant Access Savings complements an existing feature Revolut announced in Ireland earlier this year, which enables customers to invest their cash in money market funds to grow their wealth in either EUR, USD, and GBP.

Instant Access Savings is the newest feature to Revolut’s all-star financial app, where customers will have, upon launch, access to interest on deposits at the following variable annual gross rates: Standard & Plus plans 2% AER, Premium 2.5%, Metal 3%, and Ultra 3.49%.

Revolut’s new Instant Access Savings account gives customers the ability to move their cash into their savings as soon as their salary reaches their account, earning interest on those funds every day, unlike other banks. Customers who would like to earn higher interest rates can upgrade their existing plans from Standard to paid plans in just a few taps within the app.

Instant Access Savings offers savers in Ireland full control too; customers will have access to their funds on-demand whilst earning competitive interest, adding or withdrawing at any time.

Joe Heneghan, Partner & Chief Executive Officer – Revolut Europe, said: “The Irish banking landscape is characterised by some of the lowest deposit rates in Europe, tricky or confusing limits, inaccessibility, and a real lack of competition. Today, Revolut is stepping in with a solution that makes saving money much better and much simpler for the people of Ireland. With our app now the preferred choice for managing finances every day for millions of customers in Ireland, we’re introducing Instant Access Savings accounts to offer customers great rates of up to 3.49%, full control over their money at any time, and interest paid out daily. Now when payday arrives, customers can confidently allocate a portion of their salary to their savings without having to worry about accessing it when they need it.”

Albert Codorniu, General Manager of Savings at Revolut, commented: “This is a key step in our mission to make Revolut the best choice for everyday banking. With daily interest payments and instant-access withdrawals, secured by our fully licensed bank, we’re making it simpler and better than ever for our customers to save and grow their money in Ireland.”

To open an Instant Access Savings account and start earning interest, customers need to:

  • Update their Revolut app to the latest version.

  • Tap ‘Add new’

One-in-five voters have changed their ballot choices based on social media posts

Pure Telecom, Ireland’s high-speed broadband and telecoms provider, today announces the results of its annual Connected Lives survey, which shows that one-in-five (19%) voters have changed their voting choice based on posts they have seen on social media. The research found that this is significantly higher for younger voters, with 28% of those aged 18 to 24 saying social media has led to them changing their ballot preference.

The nationally representative survey of 1,006 adults in Ireland was conducted by Censuswide on behalf of Pure Telecom. It examined the growing crossover between politics and social media and how that is impacting public opinion. In doing so, the research found that 38% of adults in Ireland believe that social media is now the most important political campaigning platform, rising to 47% for those aged 18 to 24.

The research shows that many adults turn to social media to keep themselves informed on political discourse. Of those who use social media (85%), more than a quarter (26%) credit it with helping them to see alternative political points of view, while 32% say it supports their knowledge of election and referendum issues. Despite this, just 41% of social media users fact-check political social media content, while 27% will only follow people and accounts whose political opinions they agree with.

Pure Telecom’s survey showed that there is an appetite for politicians to have a presence on social media, with many saying they would like to see more of it. Almost half (49%) of adults who use social media said they like politicians to use it because it makes them more accessible, while 49% like them to use social media as it keeps them up-to-date on their progress and opinions.

It’s not just election issues that adults in Ireland are interested in seeing from politicians. Almost half (47%) of social media users would like politicians to give more personal insights on social platforms to make them more relatable. Meanwhile, one-third of adults (33%) believe that politicians should make TikTok videos to appeal to younger generations. This rises to 45% for those aged 18 to 24.

When it comes to voicing their own opinions, the population is less sure. While 27% of men who use social media say they share their political opinions on social media, just 13% of women do it.

Paul Connell, CEO, Pure Telecom, said: “Social media is making politics more accessible to the general public, while also helping people to get up-to-speed on important political issues. It can help the population to stay informed on local issues and developments, while also having a greater awareness of national issues, elections and referenda. However, with so many admitting to being influenced politically by social media, it is incumbent on all of us to make sure we carry out some fact-checking before forming an opinion.

“With voters set to return to the ballot boxes at least twice over the next 12 months, staying connected and informed will be important for all of us in deciding which way to vote. At Pure Telecom, by providing high-speed broadband connectivity to any location in the country, we are proud to empower people to make the choices that are right for them.”

The research was conducted by Censuswide, among a sample of 1006 ROI Consumers, aged 18+. The data was collected between 26.03.2024 – 28.03.2024. 86% of Executives have already deployed Artificial Intelligence to enhance revenue, reveals TCS Global AI Study

A new study by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a global leader in IT services, consulting, and business solutions, reveals that more than eight out of 10 (86%) of senior business leaders have already deployed artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance existing revenue streams or create new ones. This compares to a staggering 93% of surveyed executives from Ireland and the United Kingdom (UK) region, who currently have AI projects aimed at growing revenue.

The ‘TCS AI for Business Study’, a comprehensive report on the state of AI adoption and its impact on businesses, also finds that 69% of businesses are more focused on using AI to spur innovation and increase revenue than on productivity improvement and cost optimisation. For respondents from Ireland and the UK, this figure was significantly lower at 59%.

Executives are generally positive about the impact of AI, with 57% globally reporting excitement or optimism about the potential impact of AI on businesses. This figure is slightly lower in Ireland and UK at 50%.

Among all respondents in the study, 45% expect up to half their employees will need to use generative AI capabilities to do their job in three years’ time — and another 41% think even more will do so. Most (65%) believe AI will augment and enhance human capabilities, enabling people to focus on higher-value activities that require creativity and strategic thinking.

Gerard Grant, Director of Strategic Initiatives at TCS Ireland, said, “2023 was a year of exuberance, with every enterprise experimenting with AI/GenAI use cases. We are now entering an era of wide-and-deep enterprise AI adoption. Enterprises, however, are realising that the path to production for AI solutions is not easy, and that building an AI-mature enterprise is a marathon, not a sprint. Our AI study has confirmed this sentiment; it has also highlighted that enterprises feel underprepared to deploy AI solutions at scale as well as to manage the profound shifts in the roles of people and ways of working resulting from such deployments.”

Business leaders are less certain about the path to transformation. Only 4% of global respondents use AI in a way that has transformed their business, this figure is slightly higher in Ireland and UK at 5%. Nearly a quarter (24%) of global respondent say they haven’t even moved beyond the initial exploratory phase; this is even less among Ireland and UK respondents at 15%.

The report finds that top barriers to business success include current corporate IT infrastructures and customer expectations. Organisations also recognise the need to move beyond existing metrics to measure the success of AI implementations; nearly three-fourths (72%) of global respondents and over three-fourths (77%) of Ireland and UK respondents say they don’t have the right metrics. The survey also highlights the need for businesses to take a strategic approach to AI adoption and develop the right performance indicators to measure the impact of the technology on their business.

TCS was one of the first organisations in the industry to bring together the capabilities of cloud computing and artificial intelligence under its AI.Cloud unit to cater to the emerging needs of customers. The unit drives TCS’ multi-layered AI architecture to help strategise AI deployment for customers across their value chains, enable deployment and govern thereafter.

The TCS Thought Leadership Institute surveyed nearly 1,300 CEOs and other senior executives with P&L responsibilities, across 12 industries and 24 countries. The survey included 111 respondents from businesses across the United Kingdom and Ireland. About half the companies had $1 billion to $5 billion in annual revenue and the other half had over $5 billion in revenue. Other key results from the global report, which can be found at on.tcs.com/2024-global-AI-study, include:

  • Executives believe the impact of AI will be greater than or equal to that of the internet (54%) and smartphones (59%)
  • Corporate functions with the most completed AI projects: Finance/comptroller (completion rate of 29%); HR (completion rate of 28%); Marketing (completion rate of 28%)
  • 65% of senior executives say their competitive advantage will still come from humans — with their creativity, intuition, and strategic thinking unleashed by AI’s augment and assist capabilities
  • 40% of executives say that in the future they have a lot of changes to make to their business before they can take full advantage of AI
  • Over half (55%) said they were actively making changes right now to their business or operating models, or to their products and services, due to the potential benefits and risks of AI
  • 81% of executives highlight the need for global AI standards and regulations
  • 93% of executives surveyed in the Ireland  & United Kingdom said they have AI projects aimed at growing revenue. Executives in other regions are equally enthusiastic with 89% in North America, 88% in APAC, 83% in Continental Europe, and 80% in Latin America
  • Nearly two-thirds of BFSI (64%) and manufacturing (63%) industry executives surveyed say they are excited or optimistic about the impact of AI on businesses

“Since our inception in 1968, TCS has always been leading change in embracing new technologies, helping decipher the opportunities behind them and execute transformational projects for our clients to rapidly unlock business value. Through our TCS Thought Leadership Institute, we have brought in new insights on every key technology development and how various industries and personas (CEOs, CFOs, CIOs etc.) are leveraging them. Through this new, data-driven and unique global AI study, we hope to further deepen the dialogue and perspectives on how AI can be used to build stronger, more sustainable and adaptable businesses for the future,” said Abhinav Kumar, Chief Marketing Officer, TCS.

Tech Review – JBL Tune 770 NC headphones

The JBL Tune 770 NC headphones are the next pair of cans to check out as I did say before it is headphone season here with more to come soon, the latest headphones come packed with features and have a nice clean look to them so lets talk some more.

Packaging is the standard affair here with the recognisable colours on the box and once opened we get presented with a white bag to store the headphones we get a 3.5mm cable an Orange charging cable and the headphones themselves and of course the statutory manuals we never read.

The headphones are light and have a clean look with all the keys on one side keeping it simple and the way I like it, the buttons are slightly raised some more than others but easy to navigate and use blindly there is two small indicator lights too and an ambient key.

The controls are simple to use as said with that you have skip and reverse tracks volume control voice activation and play and pause, the controls are fairly similar to the JBL Go 4 speaker we recently checked out with the center button being the MFB or Multi Function Button.

JBL Tune 770 NC controls – techbuzzireland

These are comfortable to wear for long periods and you will need it because they sound excellent and with the EQ control on th app you wont be taking them off in a hurry and with the added bonus of video mode even better, for me this is great as I spend lots of time on YouTube and this works well and also works rather well for the gamers out there, note that when you swap from video to audio or vice versa your headphones will disconnect for a few seconds.

Battery life is impressive here to on my testing and up there with their claims on my settings and there was no disconnections at all, being able to pair to two devices is another bonus for me too as I work on my laptop and phone all day and always have something to test out which is great.

So back to the sound, these are loud the ANC is excellent as well as the ambient sound and will keep anything going on outside where it should be, and if you want to hear some more you can do that too, there is no lag latency no tinny sound on maxed out volumes which is the way I go and overall you will not be complaining and with the JBL signature sound and bass it is only to be expected and for the price these are a must have for those who want all the above and then some.

For the money and if you are a JBL fan you have to check em out.

Boom Launch Videobar Audio Expansion Combo Kit

Fast-growing video conferencing manufacturer, Boom Collaboration, has launched a new version of its innovative HALO videobar that features expandable audio.

The Boom HALO Business Edition includes a high performance videobar plus an additional microphone/speaker to dramatically increase the audio range in larger rooms.

Launched earlier this year, the standard HALO delivers crystal-clear audio and 4K video with enhanced AI facial framing and speaker tracking. Multiple additional microphones/speakers can be daisy-chained too.

Now to accelerate further demand the company has created a dedicated dual combo package, for added value and convenience.

Co-Founder Fredrik Hörnkvist says the Business Edition overcomes traditional acoustic limitations of standard videobars. It is ideally suited to a wide range of use cases where extra audio reach is required, such as flexible rooms, dedicated tasks and growing teams.

Game-Changer

“Our flagship Boom HALO videobar already features a 4K UHD camera, six beamforming mics and high fidelity speakers for a seamless collaboration experience,” he emphasised. “But as videobars are generally installed at the front of room there’s often limited flexibility for additional audio pick-up especially on a large scale.

“With the additional speaker/microphone, audio can easily be extended by a further three metres for each device. This is useful in many ways such as for legal depositions which are already proving very popular, or a quietly-spoken CEO who often sits at the far end of a boardroom and struggles to be heard. It’s a bit of a game-changer in terms of total audio capacity.”

Available in white and black colours from UK distributor Westcoast, the HALO boasts many advanced features such as intelligent noise reduction.

Fellow founder Holli Hulett explained: “There’s little doubt the popularity of videobars will continue to grow this year and the Boom HALO Business Edition will add more fuel to the fire.

“With 120° wide angle field of view, 10x zoom and smart mic array, the HALO detects both participants and speakers in real time locking in on attendees. Six array MEMS microphones and a superior 4K lens with an eight megapixel CMOS sensor combine to create a superior solution for a variety of spaces. The additional speaker enables much greater audio pick-up for a truly exceptional and optimised meeting experience across a wider range of meeting spaces.”

Lossless Audio

She highlighted the videobar’s in-built audio quality. “High-fidelity audio with a 48kHz sampling rate and dual 10W speakers provide lossless audio and full spectrum sound for meeting participants. Acoustic Echo Cancellation and Automatic Gain Control further enhance the meeting experience and work to ensure full duplex quality at a distance of six metres.”

Bluetooth 5.0 allows for easy pairing with mobile phones and other devices. A user-friendly remote control is included too whilst an automatic privacy shutter is combined with the ability to disengage wireless connectivity for added security.

Hörnkvist concluded: “Our whole ethos is to create better meetings. Simply. The Boom HALO Business Edition is another example of this continual vision.”
