Golden Ikerionwu & Shalom Osiadi both emigrated to Ireland from their birth country of Nigeria alongside their families in the early 2000s. Still at a very young age they completed their educations from primary school up to University level both studying in Dublin City University where they first met. Shalom studied Enterprise Computing graduating with honours while Golden Ikerionwu studied Chemical & pharmaceutical science for his undergraduate degree then going on to obtain a higher diploma in Business & marketing. He recently finished up a masters in Business strategy at DCU.
Shalom has always had a flair for entrepreneurship, this was demonstrated when he successfully ran an E-commerce Business at 15 with revenue exceeding 5,000 euro in just 3 months. He currently works as a Data Scientist for ESB.
Golden’s entrepreneurial experience comes from his work being the Co-founder of the ever thriving DCU Africa society. Playing an instrumental role in the Initiation stage of the society, whose crowning jewel was being awarded the most improved society in its second year during his vice presidency.
The newest recruit to the team Zubair Masood is the lead developer and holds an undergraduate degree in Computer science and a masters in electronic engineering with extensive app and web development experience from his degree and his own entrepreneurial ventures. Zubair is currently a digital application developer also at ESB.
In 2015 Shalom founded SeeMyBuild with Golden as his Co-Founder. An application that utilized the power of augmented reality in order to disrupt and improve the construction industry via its 3D rendering of architectural CAD drawings, bringing these models to life at scale in real time. They worked on the project tirelessly, unfortunately, the project did not succeed at the time. However, they did not allow this to stop them and instead took the lessons gained from the experience to work on one of their newest ideas GlohUp.
GlohUp is a peer reviewed marketplace where you can avail of a comfortable and convenient hair or beauty service at the click of a button at a time and place that suits you. Together Shalom and Golden are working towards making GlohUp THE marketplace to those operating as freelance professionals within the hair and beauty industry. They want to help freelance beauty professionals i.e. barbers, hairdressers, nail technicians and makeup artists grow their business by reaching more customers in their local area and beyond. The focus is to help freelancers develop their own brand in the Industry.
What the boys noticed is that Customers want a more convenient and personalised service while providers want to grow their own personal brand. They want to be there when customers want to look good but either can’t make it to a salon, are unsure about the options in their area or simply want a service provided at their current location while helping freelancers who want to make that jump and establish their own name and business within the Industry giving them all the tools they need to run their business in the palm of their hands.
Current competitors in the market act as agencies for freelancers taking them under their umbrella and sending them to clients that make a booking. GlohUp instead aims to empower freelancers completely and enable them to build their own brand and establish themselves within the industry through their GlohUp ‘profile’. With GlohUp freelancers are given the tools to manage their business while also cutting out the costs usually associated with opening a brick and mortar store.
GlohUp was the brainchild of Golden Ikerionwu, he arrived at his barber’s shop one day and was frustrated with the long cue he was presented with. Since he wasn’t very trusting of other barbers and was unsure of their capabilities he had no choice but to wait and it was during this wait and frustration that the idea for GlohUp was born.
The beauty & personal care Industry in Ireland is valued at €1.053.5 billion and is expected to continue to rise in Ireland to unprecedented levels. Consumers are increasing their spend in this industry, this correlates with the increase in disposable income with Dublin alone experiencing a growth of €1,400 in just 1 year, from 2016 to 2017. Continuous growth in spending within the industry year on year in Ireland has been forecasted for the next 5 years.
What this tells us is that people are spending more on their beauty and personal care needs now more than ever, meaning the market is ripe and ready for a marketplace such as GlohUp.
In ireland it is estimated that there are at least 50,000 known freelance barbers, makeup artists, hairdressers, nail technicians and stylists currently operating in the Industry and that number grows daily. This segment of the industry we feel currently isn’t been serviced as well as it can be.
Product Features/Portfolio & Review

The Geolocation feature in the app gives customers real time information on potential freelancers in the area. Customers log on to the app, search for a specific type of service provider and are greeted with a map view displaying suitable service providers up to a 30km distance from their current location in real time. This means customers have options available to them regardless of their location.
