If something is to be said of budget smartphones, is that they are becoming more and more competitive against more sounded flagships.

One of these super mid-rangers manufacturers is ASUS with their ZenFone series, and today they unveiled the new iteration.

So, what’s new on this series?

First of all, there are three official variants the ZenFone 3, ZenFone 3 Deluxe and ZenFone 3 Ultra.

The design language has changed, meaning that we’ll not see those colourful backs from the ZenFone 2, or the back placed buttons, but is different within the family. So lets take a look at the specs

ZenFone 3

Display: 5.5 inches, Super IPS+ with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 (70.6% screen-to-body ratio)

Resolution: 1080 x 1920 pixels

OS: Android OS, v6.0.1 (Marshmallow) – Asus ZenUI 3.0

Chipset: Qualcomm MSM8953 Snapdragon 625

CPU : Octa-core 2.0 GHz Cortex-A53

GPU:  Adreno 506

Memory: 32 GB/3 GB RAM or 64 GB/4 GB RAM with microSD up to 128 GB (uses SIM 2 slot)

Camera: rear 16 MP, f/2.0, laser/phase detection autofocus, OIS (4-axis), dual-LED flash and video 1080p at 30fps; front 8 MP, f/2.0 and video 1080p

Apart from what you’ve seen above, now the phone looks like almost any other flagship with metal and glass construction. (that’s becoming the norm apparently)

Memory: 64 / 128 / 256 GB with 4GB or 6GB RAM with microSD up to 128 GB (uses SIM 2 slot)

Unlike the first brother, this model comes with an all metal build.

ZenFone 3 Ultra (“the tablet”… I mean the phablet)

OS: Android OS, v6.0.1 (Marshmallow) – Asus ZenUI 3.0

CPU: Quad-core 1.8 GHz Cortex-A72 & quad-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A53

Memory: 32 / 64 / 128 GB with 3GB or 4GB RAM with microSD up to 128 GB (uses SIM 2 slot)

Of the family, the big bro is the one the can be use for those super users that are always hungry for battery and usability. But we still need to see how the performance goes on that department.

All in all, we can see some impressive products, but the question is: how long will it take to be fully available? Will the prices be right on spot?

The basic ZenFone 3 starts at $250 (the other model is still pending), the Deluxe version goes for $499 and the Ultra is priced at $479.
