With the success of the camera tech of HTC on its M8 & Desire 816, it is no surprise that we will be seeing some of the great cameras in the time to come from this Taiwanese mobile giant. The most dynamic industry in today’s world is this Tech industry, which is not only full of innovations and geeky stuffs but also uniqueness. Recently Nokia pushed in a couple of devices the Lumia730 which was branded as “The Selfie Phone” & Lumia830 “The Affordable Flagship” followed by Apple throwing a couple of them the new taller iPhone6 & a stretched version iPhone6+ well this is not where it stops, yesterday HTC also joined the club of introducing a couple of devices, the first is a very unique piece of tech which would remind you of the “asthma pipe” the HTC RE & a beautiful looking HTC Desire EYE having a front & back 13 mp camera with dual LED flash, the war for the “Selfie Phone” has begun.
The RE is a new product category which HTC is venturing into. It resembles a “smoking pipe” like form factor making it suitable for single hand use packing a 16 mp, Sony CMOS sensor to capture anything you feel like by just a push of the thumb in a water resistant body which is capable of recording Full HD videos and is pitted against the famous GoPro Cams.
RE packs in a 146 degrees wide angle lens and can be controlled remotely with a dedicated app on Android & iOS which would even make it possible to capture some great time lapse photos. It packs a 820mAh battery, grip sensor, WiFi and Bluetooth and also has a micro SD expansion slot.
It is priced at USD199.
HTC DESIRE EYE
In a bid to cash on the increasing popularity of Selfies these days, here is a power punched offering from HTC the Desire Eye. The USP of eye is the front facing 13mp camera featuring a f/2.2 aperture with a 20mm lens along with dual LED Flash, so technically you can capture any thing in high res even from the front camera without loosing details.
The EYE runs Android 4.4 KitKat & packs the well known camera apps from HTC. It boasts a 5.2-inch full-HD LCD display; Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor; 2GB of RAM; 16GB of inbuilt storage expandable via microSD card (upto 128GB), and a 2400mAh Li-Po battery along with a 13mp rear camera with dual LED flash. Front-facing stereo speakers powered by HTC Boomsound technology are also onboard the handset. It measures in at 151.7×73.8×8.5mm.
Two camera centric apps namely Eye Experience and the latest version of HTC Zoe, have been introduced in the HTC Desire Eye. The Zoe additionally integrates with the new HTC RE camera. The video-editing app will roll out to other Android and iOS smartphones later this year. It also features an IPX7 rating, designed to resist immersion in water up to 1 metre for 30 minutes.
Both the front-facing and rear cameras can shoot 1080p@30fps videos. Apart from being exclusive to AT&T in the USA no details regarding global availability & pricing are known at the moment.
